i did indeed enjoy the Waterboys' music way back in the dark ages, but for some reason the music never stuck with me except for a track here and there (i absolutely love 'And a Bang on the Ear', and it remains in my top songs all-time for any band/artist); in fact, i got far more mileage out of the Pogues than i ever did with the Waterboys, which isn't to say one is better or best, just the groove i was into at the time; cheers

Weren't the Pogues a 'good time, get drunk, fall down on the pavement and smash your teeth out on the kerb' type band? The Waterboys output(and Pete Scott's solo stuff) is a bit more serious, a bit more substantial and (I would argue) a lot more lasting than the Pogue's throw-away stuff - though catch Mike Scott in the right mood and he'll have fun too. Hence the intro into this chain of mails/posts - unless you're the type who wants Status Quo's "Down, down, deeper and down" played at your funeral? NB As always, this is just good-natured 'IMHO' banter and no way am I throwing down the gauntlet inviting you into a 'ping pong' dialogue (meaning I want the last word!). Music for my funeral (if anyone turns up!) - Jack Straw, He's Gone or Casey Jones - not sure !!!!!

Agreed re Pogues - still stands test of time and return to more often. Hell, I even got to see my hero Joe Strummer sub for Shane McGowan on a tour when Shane was too far in the bottle to tour.

One of the most fun shows ever was Pogues, Violent Femmes and Mojo Nixon w/ Skid Roper. Talk about your all night singalongs.... Weren't any flashy drum solos.
